One look at the Grand Canyon, even on your computer screen, and you’ll start to feel it: the urge to get to the bottom of it. Then you find out you have to make reservations for a campsite or bunk bed a year in advance, and that it’s a hot, dusty 20-mile trudge that you have to be in marathon-running shape to handle. So much for that idea, right? Not necessarily – just approach things from a different perspective, starting with a trip to fabulous Las Vegas!
On the Las Vegas Grand Voyager tour, you’ll do what many people yearn to do: see the bottom of the Grand Canyon with their own eyes, without having their lives flash before them! After being picked up by our Las Vegas hotel shuttle, you’ll board custom-built fixed-wing airplanes at the exclusive Grand Canyon Scenic Airlines terminal in Boulder City, NV. Once airborne, you’ll enjoy an eagle’s eye perspective of the most amazing natural and man-made wonders of the American Southwest: stately yet stylish Hoover Dam and its sky-high bypass bridge; the vast Mojave Desert and its 1,000-year-old stands of Joshua Trees, the rugged Cerbat Mountains, and the sparkling waters of Lake Mead. Finally, you land at Grand Canyon West, and this is where your dream will finally come true!
Grand Canyon West is a Native American Tribal Park owned and operated by the Hualapai Indians. This Grand Canyon park has set itself apart from Grand Canyon National Park by offering experiences the typical Grand Canyon visitor clamors for, only without the crystal ball and red tape. Here, you hop on a helicopter and in less than 10 minutes time, you’ve descended 4,000’ and are standing on the very banks of the mighty Colorado River! A walk down a short staircase takes you to a boat ramp, where a member of the Hualapai Tribe waits to take you on a smooth water pontoon boat ride up to Quartermaster Point and back. Along the way, your guide will educate you about the deep connection the Hualapai and other Southwestern native tribes feel with this ancient waterway, and how crucial it is to the standard of living now enjoyed by millions of people in the Western U.S. After another exhilarating flight back to the rimside, a complimentary hop-on/hop-off shuttle will escort you to other highlights of Grand Canyon West, including Guano Point, site of a defunct mining operation, now home to a modern outdoor amphitheatre where tribe members display their skills at dance, storytelling, and crafts. At Eagle Point, replicas of the traditional dwellings of several Southwestern tribes will give you a deeper appreciation for how people survived without modern conveniences such as running water and air conditioning.
